Growing up my mom would sometimes use the phrase “less is more”. Makeup, jewelry, decor….and it turns out that phrase applies to weddings too. A micro wedding or elopement that’s sweet and simple somehow magnifies the beauty of the day. There’s something special about a wedding day that doesn’t try to be anything more than what it is: two people getting married, celebrating with the people who matter most.
Lexi and Simon’s intimate wedding in De Soto, Wisconsin was exactly that.
Tucked away at a beautiful Airbnb along the Great River Road, their day was quiet, laid back, and incredibly sweet. The property sat high above the surrounding landscape, with sweeping views of the river and exactly the kind of scenery that makes this little corner of Wisconsin so beautiful year round.
With only a small group of their closest people there to celebrate with them, the entire day felt less like an event to rush through and more like a few meaningful hours everyone simply got to enjoy and be immersed in.

One of my favorite things about micro weddings is how much room they leave for the day to breathe.
There’s no rule saying your wedding needs a packed timeline, a huge guest list, or twelve hours of photography coverage to be meaningful. Sometimes, a few hours is exactly enough.
For Lexi and Simon, a couple hours of photography gave us time to document the pieces of the day that mattered most without turning their wedding into an all day production. The focus stayed where it belonged: on the two of them, the people they love, and the fact that they were getting married.
And when your wedding takes place somewhere with views like these, you really don’t need much else.

Their Airbnb made such a beautiful setting for an intimate wedding. It gave everyone one place to gather, celebrate, take in the views, and simply be together.
Instead of moving from one location to another throughout the day, everything felt contained and easy. Portraits could happen just steps away, little details could be documented as they unfolded, and there was plenty of time for the moments in between.
Those are often the photographs I end up loving most, the ones that aren’t necessarily a scheduled part of the day, but tell you exactly what it felt like to be there.

I think weddings like Lexi and Simon’s are such a good reminder that simple doesn’t mean less meaningful.
You can have a small guest list.
You can rent a beautiful Airbnb.
You can choose a few hours of photography coverage instead of an entire day.
You can skip the traditions that don’t feel important to you and keep the ones that do.
A wedding doesn’t have to be elaborate to be beautiful. Sometimes stripping away all of the extras makes even more room for what the day was supposed to be about in the first place.
Lexi and Simon’s wedding was sweet, intimate, relaxed, and full of meaning, and getting to document those few hours with them along the Great River Road was such a joy.
Congratulations, you two. 🤍
